COULD I INTEREST YOU IN A FREEBIE?

This is my first blog so go easy, I say first blog, isn’t a blog just a journal that is available on the web? Anyway, enough of me, on Friday I attended the London Clothes Show at Earls Court.

Whilst I was sat on the Tube on the way to the show, I thought, what exactly is the clothes show? Is it a show? A collection of shops? And who would be there?

Upon arrival at the show I was greeted by two female brand ambassadors from a well known Mexican lager beer company (ok I will tell you, it's Corona), I was given some lovely freebies, with their branding blazed everywhere, and not a lot else, no brand information...

The fashion show was made up of small independent stockists selling everything from espadrilles to fake eye lashes and large brands showcasing their latest creations. I was one of only 5 men at the show, the other four were working on the stands, so as you could imagine the brands on show were all targeting female consumers…not the place for a 24 year old male…

However I found it a very useful exercise...The highlights, samples from Pantene, KitKat Senses, two free glasses of Barcardi, an apple Muller Rice and a packet of Snack-A-Jacks, and if that wasn’t enough the Elemis SpaBus and the Nintendo Wii Fit stand saw to that.

So as I left Earls Court having been bombarded with an array of freebies, what didn't I want to receive on my exit... a bag full of freebies... As I opened the bag I found samples from bodyform and TENA lady, this is when it hit home that I wasn’t meant to be at the clothes show...

The agency that put the freebie bags together... um I’m not convinced, aren't Lenor and Comfort competitors? If I was a brand I would want category exclusivity in the bag, otherwise it becomes submerged in with the other brands...

So to answer my first question ‘what is the clothes show’, I think the best way to describe it is a collection of fashion conscious females looking to receive a number of ‘freebies’... And a host of brands all fighting to put something in your hand...

Thanks again, Pete
